Permalink coldheartsandhotnights: A Leica 0-series camera, number 116, manufactured in 1923 as a prototype for the 35mm film market was sold at the WestLicht Photographica Auction in Vienna, Austria, for the record sum of 2,160,000 Euros (US$2,789,796) on May 12, 2012. The fully functional camera was 1 of 25 cameras produced by Leica and only 12 are known to have survived the decades. The pre-auction estimate for the camera was US$600,000-$800,000 but anxious buyers bid the price to an unprecedented amount for a camera.
